OnePlus 13T has a flat display and kills the Alert Slider for a ‘shortcut key’

The OnePlus 13T is launching later this month with a smaller display, but it also ditches the Alert Slider as OnePlus has confirmed in its latest teaser.

In a post on Weibo, OnePlus’ Louis Lee teases (translated) that the OnePlus 13T will have a “small straight screen,” referring to the flat display on the device. The OnePlus 13 also has a mostly flat display, but with curved edges to improve durability. It seems the 13T will be more like the 13R with a fully flat design as Lee says the screen is “pure straight.”

Far more important, though, is that the OnePlus 13T will be the brand’s first device to swap out the beloved Alert Slider for a “shortcut key.”

Lee explains that the OnePlus 13T still supports the three-stage switching of the Alert Slider, moving between silent, vibrate, and ringing settings for the ringer volume. The button can also now perform other tasks, though, which includes a “series of operations.” The actual use cases here aren’t mentioned, but it all sounds very much like the Action Button on the latest generations of iPhone.

OnePlus previously confirmed it would be killing the Alert Slider, but this is the first device to make the swap.

The OnePlus 13T is launching later this month, but timing for its debut outside of China remains uncertain, if it happens at all.
