These are the best-selling phones in US and other major countries, and Pixel made the list

The top-selling phones of early 2025 have been broken down by country, and while most results won’t surprise you, one unexpected result was that a Google Pixel device actually made the list.

It should come as no surprise that, globally, Apple’s iPhone lineup is the best-selling series of phones. iPhones were estimated to make up six of the top 10 best-selling phones globally in Q1 2025, with Samsung filling in most of the gaps. But the story changes a bit when you look at each country individually.

Counterpoint Research recently published a breakdown of the best-selling phones in some of the world’s biggest markets including the US, UK, India, Japan, Germany, France, South Korea, and China.

Starting with the US, the list is unsurprisingly dominated by the latest iPhones, with Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy A16 making up the #4 and #5 spots with roughly 8% of the market each. This is largely mirrored in Germany, and Apple’s iPhone 16e even takes a slot away from Android phones in the UK. Surprisingly, China’s list is also primarily made up of iPhones, but Huawei and Oppo both make an appearance. It’s a more diverse market, though, as the iPhone 16 Pro Max was the best-selling device, but only made up 4% of total sales.

The region most dominated by the iPhone is Japan, with four of the top five spots being iPhones, but this is also the only region where Google Pixel makes the top five. Specifcally, the Google Pixel 8a was estimated to make up roughly 5% of phone sales in March 2025. That’s interesting for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that the Pixel 8a is over a year old at this point. Japan is one of the best markets for Pixel phones, though, so this isn’t a huge shock.

In South Korea, Samsung’s home country, the Galaxy S25 dominates the list, with a whopping 21% of the total market in March being made up of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The base Galaxy S25, meanwhile, was the top-selling phone in France in March, making up 13% of the total market.

India was by far the most diverse market, with the Vivo Y29 being the top-selling device with mere 4% market share. Oppo A3x, Redmi 14C, and Redmi A3x are also in the top five alongside Apple’s iPhone 16.

This data effectively acts as a snapshot of the smartphone market, as it’s only based on a single month of data, but it’s still interesting to see.
